Opera smart

Opera smart – 1st edition
For the audience aged 14 to 30 years.

Opera smart aims to engage individuals under 30 with the world of opera by breaking down prejudices and igniting interest in the art of singing, starting from its foundational elements that resonate with contemporary sensibilities. It seeks to lead not only students but also curious young people into a rich and unexplored world, one that is both ancient and modern, through a journey filled with opportunities and tools.

For the 2023/2024 season, Opera smart presents an innovative reinterpretation of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” orchestrated and conducted by Maestro Enrico Melozzi. This experience combines live and digital performances, blending lyrical and electronic music, guiding the audience to actively participate in an interactive exploration of the plot of one of the most famous operas in the tradition. The show will be available both as matinee performances for schools and evening shows.

It seemed like just another performance, but that night, the characters rebelled against their creator, giving birth to new music, a new opera. Who will have truly killed Gilda? It will be up to the audience to uncover it and decide the ending of an interactive musical show, truly one of a kind.

DRAMATURGICAL NOTES

The musical language of this performance starts from Giuseppe Verdi’s “Rigoletto” and, almost as a pretext, ventures into contemporary, even electronic, territory while maintaining strong roots in the operatic tradition. At certain moments during the show, time stretches to a halt, allowing the audience to walk onto the stage with the stationary singers frozen in time, enabling them to walk around and notice details hidden from the front perspective, and even take photos with their phones. The performance concludes with alternative endings that the audience itself has helped reconstruct, creating a truly interactive experience between the spectators and the opera. The audience, through their votes, will determine the guilty party, deciding the final scene.

Since 2019, for audiences aged 14 to 30 years old

Opera smart emerges from the ashes of the “Opera it” project, sharing its primary target audience and motivations. It continually aims to introduce young people to opera, a live performance genre often perceived as distant from modernity, a seemingly archaic and less relevant form in our digital age. However, once this widespread prejudice is overcome, it becomes clear that opera is, in fact, close to young people, yesterday, today, and always. Opera is a complex mechanism, based on action, singing, storytelling, and the evocation of settings. It is a means of communication that stands up to comparison with the internet, smartphones, or video clips, perhaps even being their precursor in some way.

The journey of Opera Smart includes a customized training program for students, tailored to their specific needs, and live theater performances held in the evening or during school hours.

The schedule may be subject to date changes.
