THE ACQUAPROFONDA WHALE WINS THE ABBIATI PRIZE
AsLiCo wins the “Abbiati” Prize for a second time
Como, Thursday May 5, 2022
Acquaprofonda, the civic opera that Teatro Sociale Como – AsLiCo has commissioned, in co-production with Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, to Giovanni Sollima and Giancarlo De Cataldo, is awarded the prize “Filippo Siebaneck”, intended for initiatives of particular significance in the field of music education and/or vocational training for young people, within the 41st edition of the “Abbiati” Prize.
Today, the commission composed of Alessandro Cammarano, Sandro Cappelletto, Paola De Simone, Andrea Estero, Carlo Fiore, Angelo Foletto, Susanna Franchi, Gianluigi Mattietti, Gregorio Moppi, Carla Moreni, Stefano Nardelli, Paolo Petazzi, Alessandro Rigolli and Lorenzo Tozzi, meeting remotely, after considering the recommendations received in the consultative phase from colleagues, has nominated the winners for the year 2021. The award ceremony and the reading of motivations will be held on Sunday 5 June at Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo.
Acquaprofonda is a contemporary opera for all ages that uniquely portrays one of the most relevant issues of our time, water pollution, and is part of Opera domani, the participatory opera format created by AsLiCo.
The opera, with musics by Sollima and libretto by De Cataldo, with the direction of Luis Ernesto Doñas, scenes by Chiara La Ferlita and costumes by Elisa Cobello, and the conduction by the young Riccardo Bisatti, on the 1813 Orchestra podium, debuted last December in Rome and at Sociale in Como, and has been performed in several theatres in latest months.
This award comes to Acquaprofonda during the penultimate stage to its tournée, which will see its last stop in Messina in July, hosted Fondazione Horcynus Orca in the context of the project “Di Bellezza si vive” financed by Con i bambini, to then resume in early 2023. Tomorrow 6 May the civic opera will go on stage in Milan, at Teatro Carcano, for two repeat performances open to families and to general audience, at 18.30h and at 21h.
For AsLiCo this is the second Abbiati prize: the first win was in 2016 for the participative opera project 200.Com. project for the city.
