The music design is inspired by the original opera, and it highlights the recurrent arias to encourage the listening. The idea promotes a sensory experience through colours, shapes and languages and a staging arrangement custom made for new-borns.
Once upon a time there was a strange place: it was called world. It was like a castle, a group of our houses, a big road, comings and goings. A place full of people, characters, meetings, parties, wars, jokes and mysteries. A carousel in which time goes by without us noticing it. Our version of Rigoletto wants to say something about and to our everyday life, family life, community life with its strengths and weaknesses.
Music and song will tell the story of change and growth of the two protagonists of Verdi’s drama. A circular place, a crowded road and a crossroads represent the scenes of the Before and the After, what happens when a child shakes family life. For us, Rigoletto is the starting point for a love story: the force that drives the world and shakes the lives it touches. A cruel and sarcastic father. The daughter, Gilda, is loved by Rigoletto with powerful kindness, inconceivable for those who know him just for his exterior mask. Often love is a secret, as the real face under the comedian’s mask. Our story is about this secret flower, how things change when something new happens in a wheel that has always turned in the same way. The story will let us know how the seed of this love germinates in Gilda, daughter who gains strength and begins her love adventure, a life in the real world with its good and frightening moments. Laugh, pain, good, evil, ugly and beauty through costumes, chase and confession meet in this place and they are lulled, encouraged and contrasted by Verdi’s divine music. A performance about Love as a container able to embrace a constant becoming. While growing you transform yourself, you became everything, then nothing and again everything. You become also music and you can fly.
